Dada Chapel Brhum Small Batch for The Nectar Barrel strenght 60,2%

To refresh our memory, what is Brhum? Brhum is Dada Chapel's quirky local interpretation of rum. Why import and ferment sugar cane when acres of sugar beets are sprouting up in Belgium? Together with the Tien sugar factory, Dada Chapel was able to develop their own interpretation, the Brhum.

Brhum is a distillate of sugar beet with striking notes of cocoa, strawberry and terroir on the nose, and a buttery soft mouthfeel. A homegrown product that we are all very proud of because, "Tropical is a state of mind!"

Our team at The Nectar had the opportunity to visit the spectacular distillery, located in the center of Ghent. Here we enjoyed a tasting of several Brhum barrels. Two barrels, both of which had been aged for some time, caught everyone's attention and the decision to make a Small Batch of these 2 barrels was quickly made!

The aged Brhum in our Small Batch is a composition of the following 2 barrels: an American Oak barrel and a somewhat more special barrel. For example, they first filled a Virgin French Limousin Oak barrel with a medium toast. However, after 4 months Dada Chapel found that the liquid contained too many tannins so they continued to mature the Brhum in another barrel, namely an American Oak barrel.

The combination of these became our Small Batch! The Small Batch is part of Dada Chapel's 'Oddity Bottlings' series and it is the first time they have released a Limited Edition of this.

The DNA of the classic Brhum is clearly present, but is given an extra complexity by its barrel aging. You can enjoy chocolate, terroir and tannins in an elegant but powerful balance.

We made the choice to bottle 2/3rds of this Small Batch at 50% ABV, while keeping 1/3rd at barrel strength of 60.2% ABV. The portion bottled at 50% is more pronounced in the nose and in the initial taste. The barrel strength, in turn, is initially less noticeable, but develops into a more complex profile over time.
